Our Senior Saltwater Captain - Seth hails from Idaho and spends his winters there. He has worked for us for the last seven years, traveling to Alaska each summer to skipper for halibut. He holds a USCG Master license and is captain of the “HARD EIGHT” for the season.
Troy, Aka Eclipse, is a licensed Master Captain and has been fishing the last five years in Southeast Alaska waters. Troy grew up in Florida and has fished the East Coast waters since he was a youngster having much success with tournaments in that area. Along with the knowledge and experience as a Marine mechanic, he brings his love of the open water to Alaskan Fishing. According to Troy, nothing gets the adrenaline flowing like fishing the Alaska waters for Halibut or the thrill of the fight for the King Salmon and Silvers. Troy looks forward to fishing Cook Inlet with Afishunt Charters and anticipates a successful 2019 season.
Jimmy grew up in Florida, has lived in Hawaii and now South Carolina. We Welcome Jimmy to our Afishunt family.
Our Saltwater Captain and Prior Owner - John was a fighter pilot in the USAF for 20 years and has been a USCG Master-licensed mariner for 24 years. He has now captained over 2000 charters in his fishing career.
Nick grew up on a lake in New Hampshire and moved out west to pursue big game guiding. Coming to Alaska for the adventure he spent two years as a deckhand before getting his Captains license. An amazing accomplishment Nick is now a full time Captain and Guide and a great member of the Afishunt family.
Welcome back to Afishunt Zac! Zac is a master fisherman. If there is a fish in the river Zac will find it.
We are proud of our equipment. As the only true USCG Inspected Vessels (CFR subchapter T) in Ninilchik, our big boats far exceed the safety requirements of six pack boats that advertise five star uninspected vessel ratings. All our four ocean boats have heated enclosed cabins and bathroom facilities on board. Our river drift boats are custom built for Alaskan salmon fishing by Hyde Boat Company and Willie Boats.
The “Hard Eight” is the first inspected vessel to operate in these waters. It is licensed for 10 persons plus crew (although we will only place eight for halibut fishing). We now take out those office parties and large families in one boat! It is a 32 foot by 10 foot aluminum-hulled cruiser with state-of-the-art Furuno integrated electronics and all the latest safety gear including life rafts. In 2008 we repowered this boat with twin 250hp Mercury Verados.
The “Exciter” is the second of our custom built 32 foot inpsected vessels. Like the Hard Eight, it is Coast Guard inspected and approved for 10 persons, although we carry 8. It is equipped with the same electronics package as Hard Eight and is also powered by twin 250hp Mercury Verado motors.
The “Voyageur” is our third and newest custom-built 32 foot inspected vessel. A sistership to our two other subchapter “T” inspected boats, it is likewise certified to carry 10 persons plus a crew of two. As our flagship, it has impressive twin 250hp Mercury Verado engines and the latest in Furuno electronics
The “Afishunt II” is a custom-built 28 foot by 9 foot ALMAR Sounder model. We designed it exactly for fishing in these waters. It is beautiful, sleek, fast, and comfortable- the queen of the six-pack fleet in Deep Creek. It is approved for six persons plus a crew of two. It is equipped with VHF and CB radios, Furuno radar, Garmin GPS, and Furuno sounder. It is powered by a pair of 225hp Mercury Verado outboard motors.
The drift boats we use on the Kasilof River are custom-built for this drift-only fishing. They hold four clients, plus the guide. The equipment and tackle are specially designed to aid in river fishing, making it accessible to expert as well as novice fishermen.
